It’s a worthwhile cause to support your favorite celebrities. In case you’re a huge fan Judi Dench, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Sporty Spice Melanie C you can bid for a pair of their shoes and donate to De-Feet campaign.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Organisation is Britain’s:
Only charity wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer. The aim of their De-Feet Campaign is to raise awareness for lung cancer which is still a top killer. The organisation provides funding for research, public education and support for sufferers and their families.”
Anfield legends John Aldridge and Alan Kennedy, Bread actress Jean Boht, Big Brother winner Craig Phillips, ex-Hollyoaks stars Terri Dwyer and Paul Danan, and Shameless actress Tina Malone have also put their shoes up for grabs.
Shoes belonging to boxer Ricky Hatton, singers Sir Cliff Richard and Gary Barlow, entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne, racing driver Lewis Hamilton, and TV presenters Lorraine Kelly and Fearne Britton can also be presented.
Paul Gauntlett, the foundation’s director of development, said:
There are so many great ways to get involved with De-Feet day and help raise money.
I am looking forward to hearing about the events as they happen across the UK.”
Shoes on offer include those Hamilton wore for the Monaco Grand Prix and those Dench wore when she played the James Bond character M.
Sir Cliff Richard, friend of Roy Castle and life president of the charity, said:
I would like to encourage everyone to support this important campaign to raise much-needed funds for its life-saving work.”
I have donated a pair of shoes, to be auctioned on De-Feet Day, and I hope there will be lots of keen bidders.”
Dragon’s Den star Bannatyne said:
Many people do not realise lung cancer is the UK’s biggest cancer killer.
“The De-Feet campaign aims to raise public awareness about the reality of the disease.
“The message is serious but the campaign is proposing some really good fun and quirky fundraising ideas.”
The foundation was established by surgeon Ray Donnelly in 1990.
The bid stars September 12.
The Lohans have a little competition for the "dumbest dysfunctional family in the world" award. Yesterday, Hilary Duff's mother called a court hearing to ask her future ex-husband for $25,000 to throw a 21st birthday party for Hilary. $25k?! Just give her a couple of sugar cubes and carrots! That will make her neigh in delight.
Susan Duff took the stand and said $25k is also what they paid for Haylie's 21st birthday party two years ago. Susan also needs the money to buy Hilary a birthday pressie. Cheap bitch! Make her a fucking card! Susan, just print this out, sign your name at the bottom and give it to Hilary.
The $10k Bob Duff currently pays Susan isn't enough to cover bills, so it's certainly not enough to pay for Hilary's stupid party. Susan said that Hilary feels emotionally abandoned by her daddy and deserves "to have some kind of recognition for a young life well-lived." Susan went on to say that Bob is a millionaire and he has the money.
The judge ordered Bob to pay $12,500 to Susan for Hilary's lame dog and pony birthday show. The judge didn't stop there! He also threw Bob in the slammer for 10 days for selling assets not approved by the court. He must also pay back the $367,537 he earned from selling the stocks.
While Bob was led out of the court room in handcuffs, Susan said, "This isn't what I wanted."
Why can't Hilary pay for her own dumb party?! When I turned 21, I had to pay for that shit myself! It was held at the luxurious Olive Garden because they used to give you a free chocolate cake at the end of your delicious meal! Not just a piece of chocolate cake either. A whole cake! For free! And they sang a beautiful and memorable song to me. This isn't the same song they serenaded me with, but it's just as crappy. Clip below:
I think we were all able to call B.S. on this rumor from the moment it came out: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake are NOT reuniting for a duet. Some things are just too good to be true. Like lies.
Britney and Justin – together again?
Unfortunately for fans of the former pop couple, it’s not to be, as Access Hollywood has learned that the pair will not be recording a duet for Brit’s upcoming album, contrary to reports.
Justin “is not scheduled to be in the recording studio with Britney,” a rep for the “SexyBack” singer told Access. The pop stars haven’t sung together publicly since they shared a stage with Aerosmith, Nelly and Mary J. Blige at the 2001 Superbowl, during Justin’s N*Sync days.
Britney’s spending her summer in the studio recording a follow-up to last year’s “Blackout.” She’s also been working on her bod, showing off a fit figure in the new issue of OK!
This rumor has been circulating for years – pretty much since the two broke up. And every time Britney either needs someone to “save” her (or her career) or gets things back on track the rumor resurfaces. Justin once angrily asked a paparazzo why he was the one who was always expected to save her, especially considering they’d been broken up for years by the time she had her breakdown. Fair enough.
While it doesn’t sound like they’re mortal enemies anymore, I highly doubt the two will ever be friends again. Apparently Justin gave Britney quite the snub at a Robin Thicke concert recently.
Britney Spears ventured out for a rare night on the town recently - and ended up in the same club as her ex, Justin Timberlake. On Agust 14, Britney hit West Hollywood’s House of Blues for a Robin Thicke concert and spotted her former beau on a date with girlfriend Jessica Biel.
“Britney was smiling and singing along to songs,” a witness says. “She kept eyeing Justin but stopped short of actually walking over to say hello. Justin kept his back to her. She was obviously waiting for him to turn around, but he never did!” Britney even watched the couple while Justin gave Jessica a long kiss on the lips.
Adds the witness, “When the concert was over, Jessica and Justin left together, and Britney exited in the opposite direction.”
[From In Touch, Sept. 1, 2008, print ed.]
I was mostly surprised Justin Timberlake was at a Robin Thicke concert. He’s like the hotter, more talented, lesser-known version of Justin. I assumed there was some sort of dramatic guy rivalry there, but apparently not. And it seems like a Britney Spears rivalry is more than enough for any guy to deal with.
Maria Peevey used the power of big retailers to take her business to the next level.
Maria Peevey, 39
SimplyShe Inc., San Francisco
Projected 2008 sales: $50 million
Description: Manufacturer of fashion products, especially pet fashions
Puppy love: It started when Maria Peevey's golden retriever inspired her to write SimplyDog, a book full of humorous life lessons. "I quickly realized that there were no fashion-based products for pets," says Peevey. "A light went off in my head." SimplyShe had designed products for women since 1999, but in 2004 the SimplyDog line of pet fashions and accessories was born.
Learning curve: Peevey had great success selling SimplyShe products to high-end boutiques, but she knew the burgeoning pet products industry had mass-market appeal. "We got our chops wet in servicing the boutique market," she says. "I had a great foundation in terms of creating and launching products."
Big dogs: In a bold move, Peevey pitched her SimplyDog line to a vice president of merchandising at Petco in 2005 and gained the retailer as her first big account. Armed with that success, she pitched and won a contract with retail giant Wal-Mart in 2006. "There was such a huge opportunity," says Peevey, whose pet products run the gamut from dresses, jackets and necklaces to beds, carriers and toys. "[With] pet fashions, nobody had really implemented a multiproduct fashion-based offering in the mass market. And that's what we did."
Maria Peevey used the power of big retailers to take her business to the next level.
Follow her lead: Don't let uncertainty hold you back from approaching large retail chains.
What is your secret to success?
Peevey: Having the guts to go for it.
What advice would you give other entrepreneurs?
Peevey: Don't think; just do. People spend way too much time worrying about how it's not going to work out and not enough time focusing on how it is going to work out.
When did you know you'd "made it"?
Peevey: When I really felt like I made it was when I walked into Wal-Mart and saw an entire aisle dedicated to SimplyShe pet fashion.
What was the first toy or reward you bought for yourself when you became successful?
Peevey: A diamond ring. On the friendship finger. Diamonds are a girl's best friend.
Rihanna reportedly fired her business manager after discovering she only has $20,000 left in her bank account.
Patricia Williams claims she was recently "let go" after Rihanna accused her
of stealing after discovering her pop fortune has all but disappeared.
Williams said: "It's not my fault that she only has $20,000 to her name. I
have worked for many high-profile actors, musicians and multi-million dollar
corporations. Why would I steal from Rihanna?
"I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the
circumstances but she wouldn't listen. She called me all sorts of horrible
names and stormed off.
"I now feel compelled to share with the world the background story as I will
not allow my name to be slandered."
Rihanna's recent album 'Good Girl Gone Bad' has sold an estimated five
million copies worldwide and she has toured extensively across the US and
Europe this year.
Williams claims the 20-year-old singer's record label Def Jam and her manger
Marc Jordan are to blame for her financial problems.
She is quoted by website blackarazzi.com as saying: "Def Jam doesn't fund
Rihanna properly, so Marc uses the money Rihanna makes from third-party
endorsements and from tours to fund her album and music videos.
I don't want to disrespect Marc's name. He is a fantastic manager and
genuinely believes in Rihanna. But he uses her money to fund her future
projects because he believes he can break her in the world-market. Her album
sales are not nearly as close to her single sales and he knows that if she
is only known as a 'singles artist' she will only be as good as her last
hit. Unfortunately, he didn't inform his client and I'm receiving the brunt
of it."
Violator/Brand Asset Group, New York City
2007 sales: $11 million (Violator); $2 million (Brand Asset Group)
Description: Artist management, record company and marketing group
From vinyl to vitamin water: Chris Lighty's first music industry job involved carrying crates of records for DJ Red Alert. "I figured out that I didn't want to be on the front line; I wanted to be on the back line," he says. Since starting Violator in 1990, Lighty has spearheaded a host of innovative marketing moves that have connected musicians with brands, including rapper 50 Cent's major endorsement deal with Vitamin Water. Violator is also home to big-name artists such as Diddy, LL Cool J and Macy Gray.
Management training: Lighty honed his management skills from an early age--he was in charge of getting his siblings to school from their home in the Bronx projects. "I have to thank my mother for being able to deal with different attitudes and the timing issues--and for making sure I got to school," he says. The Bronx turned out to be a good location for Lighty as hip-hop and rap took wing all around him in the early '80s. "Our culture isn't just about living in the projects; there's so much more."
Branding iron: As Lighty continues to make creative management and branding moves with Violator, he's also building up strategic marketing and management company Brand Asset Group, a joint venture launched with Warner Music Group last year. "The way that I'm looking at the music business now is that it's an overall business of entertainment," he says. Lighty maintains his entertainment industry shooting-star status by matching artists with unexpected brands and extending his influence into TV and film deals. Lighty even has a film company with 50 Cent. Other plans in the works include a hip-hop reality show.

Rachel McAdams takes front and center in New York Times’ latest issue of T Magazine. The 31-year-old Canuck cutie has been out promoting her latest film, The Lucky Ones. The story revolves around three soldiers — Collee (McAdams), T.K. (Michael Pena) and Cheever (Tim Robbins) — who return from the Iraq War after suffering injuries and learn that life has moved on without them. Here are a few excepts from Rachel’s interview:
[Even though you wanted to become an actress,] you still stayed in Canada instead of jetting off to L.A. or New York. [Why?] I had a small-town life — I worked at the local McDonald’s for three years. I’m not sure why they kept me: I am something of a daydreamer and a dawdler, so they would only let me be the ‘‘friendly voice’’ that greeted you when you entered the restaurant. I was slow — I would be organizing the sweet-and-sour packets in the customer’s takeout bag while the line snaked out the door. Even at a fast-food restaurant, I wanted everything just so.
Do you like to audition? I love auditioning. Since ‘‘The Notebook’’ and ‘‘Wedding Crashers,’’ I don’t have to audition anymore, and I miss it. You get to show your interpretation of the character. I get nervous when I don’t audition. What if they hate what I want to do? I also like screen tests, where they put you in a room with your male co-star. They want to see if the two of you have chemistry together. There’s something wonderfully old-fashioned about a chemistry test. During a movie, chemistry is so important, and yet they just assume actors can fake their way through it. That doesn’t always work.
In ‘‘The Notebook,’’ you and Ryan Gosling had amazing chemistry. Are love scenes difficult? They’re strange. A kiss with anyone, on or off camera, can be intimidating. I’ve been kissing for nearly two decades now, and I’m always convinced I’m not doing it right. Chemistry is so important in a great kiss. You can act your way through anything, but it’s hard with a kiss. It’s much better if there’s an attraction.
Little details are emerging about Britney Spears’ first cogent, rational interview in two years. Britney sat down with OK! Magazine at her home to talk about the ups and downs in her life, but more importantly about how things are going now and her plans for the future. Her dad Jamie sat through the whole thing as well, and though he’s been very media shy (which is probably a good thing, and why he’s gotten a good deal of credibility in the press and with the court – no one has accused him of profiting off of Britney’s situation) he did talk a little bit about his new relationship with his daughter.
In what might be a revealing answer about her own childhood, Spears said that she doesn’t necessarily want her sons, Jayden and Preston, to pursue a career in the entertainment business. “I’d rather not,” Spears told OK!. “But but I’d love them unconditionally if they wanted to. I’d just as soon they have a more normal childhood.”
Spears’ father and conservator Jamie was also present for the interview. He’s proven to be press shy and reserved, but he took the opportunity to reveal the dynamic between Kevin Federline and the Spears family. He says that in terms of custody, “Kevin is all for everything. He wants her to have 50/50 custody. He wants them to raise these kids together. Kevin’s heart is right.”
Jamie Spears also reveals that his relationship with Britney has improved, but at the end of the day she’s still capable of being manipulative to get her way. “It’s wonderful. (The relationship) is new for both of us. She sometimes calls me 50 times a day and asks me things that light my life up. But like all daughters, she is very manipulative and cunning. So she gets what she wants a lot.”
[From MSNBC’s The Scoop]
I think from the phrasing that Jamie is saying Britney can still work her dad to get what she wants the way a lot of girls can. I don’t think he was implying that she was especially manipulative in any kind of psychologically deviant way. Considering how reserved he is, one would think that if that were the case he would have kept it to himself.
A lot of stars say they don’t want their kids to go into show business, but I’ve got to say that in Britney’s case that’s a big relief to hear. Since she’s made some less-than-well-thought-out choices in the past – especially regarding her parenting decisions – it’s good to hear that she won’t push her sons into the limelight. They’ll certainly have enough of it in the coming years. The rest of the interview will be published on Friday.
New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez is not willing to talk about the extent of his relationship with Madonna, but he's about to financially back her charity, Raising Malawi, the New York Daily News reports.

"They've asked him for a million dollars, and I hear he's agreed to give at least $500,000," a source told the paper.
(Neither Rodriguez's rep nor Raising Malawi would confirm the item to the Daily News.)
Madonna, 49, found her adopted son David Banda (whose grandmother died Sunday) through her work with Raising Malawi, which benefits the African country's 1 million orphans with food, medicine and education.

Rodriguez's wife Cynthia filed for divorce in July, just six days after Us Weekly broke the news that the slugger, 33, was making late night visits to Madonna's apartment.

Cynthia's attorney, Earle Lilly, has said Rodriguez had an "affair of the heart" with the singer.
"Without talking about specifics of sexual conduct, there's no question," Lilly told Us. "No one very often has pictures of the actual sex itself."
Rodriguez – who is the highest-paid player in the sport with a 10-year $275 million contract – has previously donated $3.9 million to the University of Miami.
